Dr. Paula Coffee was born and raised
in Pueblo, Colorado, the fourth of seven children to an Italian immigrant
family. She attended undergraduate and dental school at Creighton University in
Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from dental school in May of 1984, Dr. Coffee
went on to complete a one-year General Practice Residency at the University of
Nebraska Medical Center Hospital in Omaha.
From 1985-1987, Dr. Coffee worked as an associate dentist in Deadwood, SD, under
the exquisite guidance of Dr. Dennis Mills. While she loved the office and loved
working with Dr. Mills and his office staff, Colorado was home and was beckoning
her to return. She headed home in the summer of 1987.
On October 1, 1987, Dr. Coffee bought a relatively new practice in the office
where she continues to work today. Although the office has undergone many
updates and expansions, it has been her working home for over 18 years.
Dr. Coffee has many interests, one of the most important being a volunteer
dentist in the Dominican Republic. As a junior dental student in 1983, Dr.
Coffee was chosen to be one of six dental students to participate in the summer
program of ILAC, the Institute for Latin American Concern, sponsored by
Creighton University. While spending eight weeks in a third-world country with
no running water and no electricity, living in thatched roof huts with dirt
floors, bathing in rivers and extracting teeth in the sunshine was not something
that she ever thought she would do while growing up in Pueblo, it did surprise
her how quickly and how deeply she fell in love with the people and the country
of the Dominican Republic. She loved it so much that she returned as a
supervising dentist with ILAC to guide the dental students for five weeks in
1985 and two weeks in 1987. She returned again to work as a dentist with ILAC in
June of 2005, this time taking with her as part of her team her sister, Theresa
as a hygienist, friend Anne, nieces Villi and Elizabeth and her two children,
Emily and Allison.
Professional accomplishments include being chosen as the General Arrangements
Chairman of the 1994 Denver Midwinter Convention, and receiving an invitation
from her peers to become a Fellow in the Pierre Fauchard International Honorary
Dental Society. She also considers it a great honor to be one of 112 dentists
chosen nationwide in 2004 to participate in a three-year national research
project with Clinical Research Associates in Provo, Utah, with Drs. Gordon and
Rella Christensen.
Dr. Coffee works with a wonderful staff and attributes much of her office
success to having such a highly trained, compassionate and fun staff to work
with. The front office staff includes Heidi managing the Front Desk duties and
Louanne working as the insurance and billing sleuth. Theresa, who is Dr.
Coffee’s sister and Heather are hygienists who each have over 11 years of
experience. Kapka, the resident Artist/Expanded Function Dental Assistants, is
the lead dental assistant with Debbie and Anjuli, also Expanded Function Dental
Assistants. Sue floats between the front office, dental assisting and helping
Dr. Coffee, wherever she is needed.
Dr. Coffee has loved being a dentist for over 21 years, and welcomes the
opportunity to be of service to new patients.
